How we keep guides current
Our process for keeping allowances, rates and links accurate for UK readers.
Why currency matters
UK personal-finance rules move every tax year. An ISA limit, Personal Allowance or State Pension figure that was right last April can mislead readers the next. We treat currency as part of the product — not an afterthought.
What we review each tax year
- Income tax Personal Allowance and band thresholds (noting Scotland sets its own income-tax bands)
- ISA annual allowance and Lifetime ISA rules
- Personal Savings Allowance and dividend / CGT allowances where we mention them
- State Pension illustrative amounts and signposts to the official forecast
- National Living Wage references used in examples
- Broken links to GOV.UK, MoneyHelper and other official tools
Primary sources we check
- GOV.UK — tax, benefits, pensions, Help to Save, LISA
- MoneyHelper — impartial money guidance
- FCA — scam warnings and regulated-firm checks
- Ofgem / comparison guidance for energy context where relevant
How articles are structured
Hub guides give you the map. In-depth articles add a worked UK example, a checklist, common mistakes, FAQs and a clear stop-point for regulated advice. Every article shows a Reviewed date and the tax year it targets.
Corrections
If a menu path, figure or eligibility note is wrong for your situation, email hello@smartmoneyanswers.com with the page URL and what you see on the official source. We use corrections to improve the guides.
