Editorial standards
Our rules for accuracy, transparency and usefulness.
Purpose
Every page should help a UK reader make a clearer next step with accurate figures for the labelled tax year. Robbie writes the guides; we prioritise practical detail — worked examples, eligibility edges, and honest “when not to DIY” notes — over filler word count.
Research and sources
- Primary figures come from GOV.UK, MoneyHelper and other official or impartial bodies.
- Articles show a Reviewed date and the tax year they describe (currently 2026/27).
- Scotland’s income-tax bands are noted where they change the answer.
- We do not copy product marketing pages or scrape competitor sites for content.
What “information, not advice” means
We explain how UK rules and common money tactics work in general. We cannot know your full circumstances, so we do not recommend specific products, investments or debt solutions for you personally. Where a decision is high-stakes, we point to regulated advisers or free debt charities.
Calculators
Our tools run in your browser using the assumptions stated on each page. They are illustrations, not HMRC, MoneyHelper or lender calculations. Always confirm eligibility and figures on official sites before acting.
Corrections
Email hello@smartmoneyanswers.com with the page URL, the incorrect claim, and a link to the official source. Material corrections are updated on the page and the reviewed date is refreshed.
Advertising
Advertising (if shown) does not decide which topics we cover or what conclusions guides reach. Empty ad slots stay hidden until properly configured.
